Presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is urging the national government to declare March 15 as Frontliners' Day as he acknowledges the contributions of frontline workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was on March 15, 2020 when the Duterte administration placed Metro Manila under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to curb the spread of COVID-19. ECQ was eventually expanded in Luzon to address the COVID-19 threat.
Marcos said the heroism and sacrifices of frontliners should be recognized by declaring March 15 as Frontliners' Day.
“Kung hindi sa kanila baka lalo nang huminto ang pag-ikot ng ating mundo. Maraming salamat sa ating mga frontliners at panahon naman siguro para sila’y kilalanin ng ating pamahalaan dahil sa kanilang kabayanihan,” Marcos said in a press release.
(If not for the frontliners, our daily routines could have totally stopped. I want to thank all our frontliners and I think it is high time that we recognize their heroism.)
The former senator said frontliners like health and medical workers, law enforcers, barangay officials, employees of groceries, markets, banks and delivery riders have been carrying on their tasks despite the risk to their own health.
Marcos noted that some of the frontliners also got ill and many also lost their lives.
“Maaaring maliit na bagay para sa iilan ang panukala nating ito pero napakalaking bagay po ito para sa ating mga frontliners at sa kanilang pamilya. At dapat kilalanin din natin ang mga nasawing frontliners sa gitna ng pandemya,” Marcos said.
