Senators Manny Pacquiao and Imee Marcos on Friday expressed willingness to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in public.
Ron Munsayac, the spokesman for Pacquiao and his party PDP-Laban, said the boxer-senator has been open to getting vaccinated in public since last year.
“He's very willing to be vaccinated. In fact, last year, the idea came from him personally but we have just to be extra careful and prudent because it may affect his upcoming professional fight,” he said.
Pacquiao recently began training for his next fight with an opponent who is yet to be announced. The senator's camp said the fight will be in May.
Marcos, meanwhile, said she was ready to get a COVID-19 vaccine despite her asthma.
Senate President Vicente Sotto III also said on Thursday that he was willing to get vaccinated in public.
A poll by the OCTA Research group earlier found that only 25% of Metro Manila residents were willing to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
Another Pulse Asia survey showed that 47% of adult Filipinos were not inclined to get vaccinated, mostly due to safety concerns.
The Department of Health said it would launch a massive information campaign to boost public trust in vaccines.
The Philippines is set to roll out vaccines to healthcare facilities this month.
