Palace distances itself from movement seeking Sara presidency

Malacañang distanced itself from the launch of the "Duterte Pa Rin" movement which supports Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s 2022 presidential run.

“Walang pong kinalaman ang Malacañang bagama’t nirerespeto natin ang paniniwala ng ating mga kababayan na dapat maging pangulo si Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.

(We are not involved with that, although we respect what they stand for.)
The movement supporting President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter was launched last weekend in Pasay City.

Roque then said that even if former administration officials are supportive of the movement, this did not mean that the Palace is involved.

“They can do it as a private citizen,” Roque said.

Roque, however, was explicit that he would be rooting for an administration candidate in 2022.

Vice President Leni Robredo’s said earlier that the opposition would need one candidate to defeat President Rodrigo Duterte's bet in 2022.

“May the opposition have a thousand candidates in 2022,” Roque added.

Mayor Sara has been consistently leading pre-election polls for possible presidential candidates in 2022.
