Lawyers of Enchong Dee deny he evaded arrest

THE camp of Kapamilya actor Enchong Dee on Tuesday afternoon dismissed reports that he has been hiding from the authorities of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) following an arrest warrant issued to him last week as a result of the P1 billion cyber libel filed against him by a lawmaker.

In a statement sent to The Manila Times, his lawyers from the Castillo Laman Tan Pantaleon & San Jose Law Firm said that Dee "has been attending to his professional and personal commitments in the past couple of days and has not made any attempt to evade arrest."

His legal team also confirmed that Dee indeed posted P48,000 bail after he surrendered to the NBI in Quezon City on Monday afternoon.

"More importantly, as a show of respect for the rule of law, he voluntarily surrendered himself to the authorities and posted bail," his lawyers said.

"Moving forward, Enchong will take all the appropriate and necessary legal steps to defend himself against the impending lawsuit," the statement added.

Reports about Dee's whereabouts began after veteran showbiz columnist and host Cristy Fermin revealed on her show "Cristy Ferminute" on Saturday that the NBI failed to serve the arrest warrant to Dee due to his absence at his home address in Cubao.

His latest Instagram post four days ago, meanwhile, saw Dee spending his time on a beach.

It was on Aug. 14, 2021 that Dee tweeted that Party-list Rep. Claudine Bautista-Lim of the Drivers United for Mass Progress and Equal Rights (DUMPER) used public money for her grand wedding in July. Three days later, however, the actor deleted the tweet and apologized publicly.

Davao Occidental prosecutors then released a nine-page resolution dated Nov. 16, 2021 showing Dee in "violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012."
