Pacquiao named envoy for homeless, leads housing project turnover in Mandaue City

A day before the start of the campaign period for Eleksyon 2022, Senator Manny Pacquiao on Monday led the turnover ceremony of a housing project in Mandaue City.

The presidential aspirant, who has made housing for the poor as one of his campaign battle cries, also led the groundbreaking of a community center which he donated in Barangay Subangdaku, according to a statement from his camp.

During the event, Pacquiao was named as “Ambassador for the Homeless and Vulnerable” by an international philanthropic organization, Spring Rain Global (SRG).

Pacquiao said the private sector could help address the housing problem through these projects but pointed out that only the government can end the housing woes of the poor.

“Gobyerno lang talaga ang may kakayahan na tapusin itong problema sa housing (Only the government has the capability to end this problem in housing),” he said.

Pacquiao said he plans to build at least 10 million houses for 1.6 million informal settlers and over nine million families who are renting apartments or are sharing spaces with their extended families.

During his visit in Cebu, Pacquiao also turned over 10 generator sets from Veloce Esports and Team Pacquiao GG  to 10 communities in the province, which still have no power supply after Typhoon Odette.

SRG raises and facilitates funding for various humanitarian projects especially in third world countries.

It is working with Vincentian missionaries, Malibu Matimco Village Home Owners Association Inc., Chamber of Real Estate  and Builders Association and the Mandaue City government for the construction of 3,000 housing units at the reclamation area in Sitio Malibu and Matimco in Mandaue.—LDF, GMA News
