After getting threats for being mistakenly included in the oust-Duterte plot matrix, Olympics gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz said Sunday that she has already forgiven chief presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo.
Diaz said this despite Panelo's failure to apologize for including her in the matrix, although the top Palace official in 2019 said that he was sorry for hurting the athlete's feelings.
"As a Catholic Christian, napatawad ko na po siya [Panelo]. At masasabi ko na lang na may rason kung bakit nangyari 'yon. At ito naiuwi ko na po ang gold medal para sa Pilipinas," Diaz said over BiSerbisyong Leni radio show, while laughing off the threats she got back then.
(As a Catholic Christian, I have already forgiven him. I think there was a reason why the mistake happened. And look, I have brought home this gold medal for the Philippines.)
Diaz admitted that after she was implicated in the oust-Duterte plot matrix, she experienced difficulty in getting funded as she prepared for her trip to 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and that she had to ask for donations from the private sector.
In 2019, Panelo -- acting as Palace spokesperson -- presented to the Malacañang media a matrix on a supposed oust-Duterte plot. It contained a number of names, including Diaz.
Panelo had cleared Diaz and blamed the media for "faulty analysis" of the matrix.
In a 2019 television interview, Panelo said “When a principal gives you a document, it is assumed that it was done [with presumption of] regularity in performing official duty.”
“I am sorry and I am sad to know na nasaktan si Hidilyn. I am sorry for that, kawawa naman. Hindi naman iyon ang intensiyon nung mga gumawa ng matrix,” he added.
