THE National Capital Region (NCR) and the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon (Calabarzon) are experiencing community transmission of the Delta variant of Covid-19 but the Department of Health has yet to confirm it because it needs more evidence to make an official announcement.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that while the government assumed that there is indeed community transmission of the variant, confirming it needs a "highly technical" analysis to determine the spread, especially with the limited samples the country has sequenced.
"The assumption is there.... but as to confirming it, kailangan kasi namin ng ebidensya (we need to have evidence) because this is a.... technical thing when we classify and announce na may community transmission na talaga kasi kailangan mo ng ebidensya para dyan (there has to be evidence to prove that there is community transmission)," Vergeire told reporters in a media briefing on Monday.
She added that based on initial analysis of samples that have been sequenced, the NCR and Calabarzon region are experiencing community spread of the Delta variant because of unlinked clusters.
