Voters’ registration in ECQ, MECQ areas suspended

MANILA, Philippines — Voters’ registration and issuance of voters’ certificates in other areas that were placed under enhanced community quarantine and modified MECQ have been suspended.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said voters’ registration in Laguna, Iloilo City and Cagayan de Oro, which are under ECQ, as well as in Cavite, Lucena City, Rizal and Iloilo province, which are under MECQ,  were suspended from Aug. 6 to 15.

The poll body had earlier suspended voters’ registration in Metro Manila from Aug. 6 to 20.

Satellite registration in barangays, malls and other venues are covered by the suspension.

In a post on Twitter, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez reminded those under more relaxed community quarantine classifications to register for next year’s elections.

Jimenez said the last day of registration is on Sept. 30.

“This is your daily reminder that bad officials are elected to office by good people who don’t vote. Where you can, while you can, #MagparehistroKa na,” Jimenez posted on his Twitter account.

Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said there would be no extension of the voters’s registration deadline.
