Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has reacted to the statement of President Rodrigo Duterte about the resumption of classes amid COVID-19 pandemic.
We learned that the country’s chief executive stated on May 25 that he is not in favor of resuming “physical” classes until a vaccine for the virus is developed.
He mentioned that the safety of the students is the top priority amid the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the Philippines.
“I will not allow the opening of classes na magdikit-dikit yang mga bata… Wala nang aral, laro na lang, unless I am sure they are really safe," the President quipped.
"It's useless to be talking about opening of classes. Para sa akin, bakuna muna,” he added.
Vico was aware of the recent statement of President Duterte. He aired his reaction through a much-talked-about social media post.
He pointed out that despite of the situation, all students must be given a chance to continue learning.
The prominent politician revealed that Pasig City is already preparing better internet connection in every barangay so that students will have access to the modules prepared by the Department of Health (DOH).
“Ano man ang mangyari, hindi natin puwedeng hayaan na mahuli ang mga magaaral natin sa mga pampublikong paaralan...” Vico said.
“We are preparing better internet connections at the barangay level where students can download the modules… We are identifying funds for personal learning devices for students,” he added.
Vico Sotto is one of the most popular and admired politicians in the Philippines. Aside from being the Mayor of Pasig City, he is known for being the son of Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes.
